About this calculator

Calculates standard trigonometric functions (sin, cos, tan) and their inverses (asin, acos, atan). Supports both degrees and radians. For the inverse functions, the input value must be in [-1, 1] for asin/acos.

How trigonometry works

Trigonometric functions relate the angles of a right triangle to the ratios of its sides: sine is opposite/hypotenuse, cosine is adjacent/hypotenuse, and tangent is opposite/adjacent. Inverse functions (arcsin, arccos, arctan) return the angle whose sine, cosine, or tangent equals the given value. Many angles have exact values involving √2/2, √3/2, and 1/2 — this calculator shows them for common angles (0°, 30°, 45°, 60°, 90°, 180°, 270°, 360°).
